Saudi Arabia’s PIF-backed SRJ Sports Investments has made its first investment by acquiring a $100 Stake in the Professional Fighters League (PFL) as it expands into mixed martial arts and aims to bring a regional tournament to the kingdom.
This deal marks the first significant venture of SRJ Sports Investments into the MMA space.
A New Era for MMA in the Middle East
The investment in PFL is a strategic move by SRJ Sports Investments, aiming to cultivate local and regional talent, promote gender equality in sports, and introduce new possibilities directly to Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The acquisition of the minority stake in PFL is the first deal by SRJ Sports Investments. This decision was made following the establishment of SRJ Sports Investments by Saudi Arabia’s $650 billion Public Investment Fund earlier this year.
The investment by SRJ fuels the monumental global growth experienced by PFL. As a part of the agreement, PFL plans to establish a Middle East and North Africa league in the second quarter of 2024, with the venture having its headquarters in Saudi Arabia.

The partnership between SRJ Sports Investments and PFL is set to boost the PFL’s regional expansion plans. SRJ will support PFL’s expansion in Saudi Arabia and the wider MENA region, as well as in the recruitment of top fighters globally.
PFL Mena: A New Regional League
SRJ is set to invest in a new regional league, PFL Mena, which will be launched in the second quarter of next year. This league will be one of six regional leagues where martial artists compete in seasons and then proceed to fight in a global championship.

SRJ aims to nurture the local and regional talent pool in martial arts, promoting gender equality in sports and bringing new opportunities directly to Saudi Arabia and the wider MENA region. SRJ and PFL will jointly develop and host PFL PPV Super Fights mega-events in Saudi Arabia.
Looking Forward: A Champions League of MMA
PFL plans to launch and develop six international regional leagues by 2026, creating a “Champions League of MMA.” The company also aims to unveil a new division, PFL PPV Super Fights, next year to showcase the best MMA fighters.
