This commitment to sustainability has always been at the forefront of Red Sea Global’s objectives. As John Pagano, the Group CEO at Red Sea Global, stated:

“From the very beginning, our ambition was to develop a sustainable tourism destination that would set new industry benchmarks. We take pride in achieving the highest ever score in this accreditation, thus setting a high standard for ourselves and for others to emulate.”

This accomplishment comes from another recent recognition for Red Sea Global, as the USGBC named it the ‘Outstanding Developer’ of the Year at the LEED Homes Awards 2023.

The Platinum LEED v4.1 Cities: Plan and Design certification is a prestigious accreditation that recognizes projects that excel in sustainable city planning and design.

Receiving this certification is a testament to Red Sea Global’s dedication to preserving the environment and its position as an industry leader. According to Peter Templeton, the President and CEO of the US Green Building Council:

“We are incredibly proud to award the prestigious Platinum LEED v4.1 Cities and Communities: Plan and Design certification to Red Sea Global. This achievement underscores their steadfast commitment to the environment and solidifies their position as leaders in the industry.”

Red Sea Global’s Journey with LEED

Red Sea Global’s journey with LEED for Cities and Communities began in 2019 when the USGBC met with the company’s Head of Design to encourage the company to pursue the LEED v4.1 for Cities: Plan and Design certification.

Raed Albasseet, Group Chief Environment and Sustainability Officer at Red Sea Global reflected on this journey:

“When USGBC proposed this scheme to us, we acknowledged its potential as an ideal match for our aspirations. It enables cities to plan, design, develop, measure, and enhance performance, concentrating on outcomes from ongoing sustainability efforts.”

Last month, the Red Sea welcomed its first guests and is a shining example of a sustainable tourism destination. Two of its hotels accept bookings, Six Sense Southern Dunes and St. Regis Red Sea Resort, and the Red Sea International Airport has maintained a regular flight schedule since September.

Upon full completion in 2030, the destination will encompass 50 resorts, offering 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The destination will also feature luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, food and beverage outlets, and leisure facilities.
