Cruise Saudi and the Al-Madinah Regional Development Authority have signed a MoU to enhance tourism in the historic Al Madinah region. 

This partnership, formed at the Saudi Tourism Forum in Riyadh, aims to enrich visitor experiences through showcasing Madinah’s historic sites through onshore experiences.

Cruise Saudi, A PIF subsidiary, works to enable cruise lines from around the world to include Saudi as a port of call on their itineraries. They aim to welcome 1.3 million passengers annually by 2035.

As Saudi Arabia continues to reinvent itself as a global tourist hub, the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cruise Saudi, wholly owned by the PIF, and the Al-Madinah Development Authority is set to bring a new wave of change in the country’s tourism sector.

A Partnership with a Purpose

The MoU, signed during the recent Saudi Tourism Forum held in Riyadh, seeks to foster economic development and social impact in the historic Al-Madinah region, keeping in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

This partnership represents a collaborative effort to boost accessibility to Madinah, facilitate regional development, and expand infrastructure to cater to a growing number of tourists. Both entities are committed to utilizing their capabilities and experiences to realize this shared vision.

The Joint Goal of the Collaboration

As part of the deal, both parties will utilize their capabilities and experiences to achieve their joint goal. The entities share a vision to advance and aid access to Al-Madinah, develop the region, and expand facilities to accommodate more tourists.

The signing of the MoU with the Al-Madinah Region Development Authority marks Cruise Saudi’s commitment to showcasing the most significant historical sites of Saudi Arabia through a carefully curated array of onshore experiences.

Cruise Saudi, wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), will play a pivotal role in this collaboration. 

By leveraging its capabilities and experiences, Cruise Saudi aims to boost accessibility to the Al-Madinah region, facilitate regional development, and expand infrastructure to accommodate a growing number of tourists.

The Al-Madinah Region Development Authority’s Role in the MoU

The Al-Madinah Region Development Authority will work with Cruise Saudi to realize its shared vision. The Authority will utilize its resources and expertise to foster growth, improve facilities, and showcase Madinah’s historic sites through onshore experiences to drive economic prosperity in the region.

The Saudi Tourism Forum

The Saudi Tourism Forum was ideal for both parties to underscore their commitment to elevating tourism in the Madinah Region. 

The forum, an annual event dedicated to promoting Saudi Arabia as a tourist destination, witnessed the formalization of this partnership that aims to enrich visitor experiences, create jobs, improve facilities, and drive economic growth.

The Broader Objective: Saudi’s Vision 2030

This collaboration operates within the Kingdom’s broader objective of welcoming 150 million tourists annually by 2030, as outlined in Saudi’s Vision 2030. The Vision aims to diversify the economy and reduce Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil revenue.

The tourism and economic sectors of the Al-Madinah region are expected to develop significantly following the signing of this agreement. The agreement will also create jobs and stimulate social impact within the region.

Cruise Saudi’s Future Plans

Operating within the broader context of Saudi Vision 2030 to diversify the economy, Cruise Saudi plans to welcome 1.3 million passengers annually by 2035 and support the country’s tourism industry.

With port facilities in Jeddah, Yanbu, and Dammam, Cruise Saudi enables cruise lines from around the globe to include Saudi as a port of call on their itineraries. Cruise Saudi has also recently launched its first cruise ship called “Aroya Cruise.”, a 335-meter-long ship that will set sail from Jeddah in 2024.

This collaboration with the Al-Madinah Region Development Authority is set to be a game-changer in the Kingdom’s tourism sector, revealing the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage, history, and natural wonders to the world.

Additionally, Cruise Saudi has renewed its partnership with Discover Saudi. Cruise Saudi aims to welcome 1.3 million cruise visitors to Saudi Arabia by 2035 and provide 50,000 direct and indirect jobs while supporting Saudi’s Arabias Vision 2030.

This collaboration is a testament to the successful third season, with Discover Saudi offering unique shore excursions to over 5,200 cruise passengers.
