Marriott International has announced that it has begun construction of the new Ritz-Carlton hotel in Diriyah which is due to open in 2026.

The five-star hotel is to be located within the $63 Billion Diriyah Giga Project and is due to feature 195 guest rooms and 34 luxury suites.

The hotel will also feature high-end restaurants, outdoor pools, a fitness centre and offer immersive guest experiences.

At-Turaif World Heritage Site

Diriyah, a heritage site known as “The City of Earth,” is situated 15 minutes northwest of Riyadh and is also home to the At-Turaif UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Jerry Inzerillo, group CEO of Diriyah Co., stated, “The partnership with Marriott International will allow guests to immerse themselves in that culture and sample the unforgettable lifestyle of The City Of Earth.”

Located in the old city of Ad Diriyah, the historic At Turaif World Heritage Site was the original home of the royal family of Saudi Arabia and represented the capital of their dynasty up till 1818. 

The Ritz-Carlton Branded Residences

To nurture a harmonious community experience, promoting social interaction through cultural venues, plazas, and leisure facilities, Diriyah Company and Ritz-Carlton have also announced the launch of the first Ritz-Carlton Luxury Branded Residences in the Kingdom.

The Villas will have 3 distinct luxury interior designs ranging from Najdi to contemporary. On completion, the Diriyah Project is due to feature 20,000 residential units, luxury hotels, and restaurants.

The Ritz-Carlton Residences offers six residential villa layouts from three to five bedrooms. Each villa includes a courtyard, presenting an ideal space for residents to relax and unwind. Furthermore, residents can choose three interior designs from traditional Najdi to contemporary.

The design of the villas at the Ritz-Carlton Residences blends ancient Najdi heritage with luxury facilities and entertainment, providing a healthy lifestyle that balances well-being with a home environment of peace and privacy in one of the world’s most important cultural and heritage destinations.

Luxury Living at Residencies

The legacy of Ritz-Carlton is set to redefine the meaning of luxury living in Diriyah, the Kingdom’s most historic cultural destination.

Sandeep Walia, Chief Operating Officer (Middle East) at Marriott International, added that with the launch of these residences in Diriyah, the legacy of Ritz-Carlton “will become a lifestyle and elevate the meaning of luxury living in the Kingdom’s foremost historic cultural destination.”

Marriott’s Bab Samhan

Another significant development is Marriott’s Bab Samhan, a part of the Marriott’s Luxury Collection Hotels, which is set to open in 2024. The hotel, designed in the warm mud-brick tones of local Najdi architecture, is within walking distance of At-Turaif

It will feature 106 bedrooms, 28 suites, one Royal Suite, a spa, an indoor swimming pool, and a restaurant by celebrity chef Michael Mina.

Four Seasons Hotel

In addition to the Ritz-Carlton, other luxury hotels such as the Address Diriyah, Capella Diriyah, and Four Seasons Hotel Diriyah are set to be a part of the Diriyah Square, a retail hub welcoming more than 450 lifestyle and luxury brands. 

The Wadi Safar Project

The Diriyah Gate Development Authority recently introduced the Wadi Safar project, which is set to transform the metropolis of Riyadh into an oasis. The project, often compared to the ‘Bel Air’ of Saudi Arabia, is set to sell approximately 40 to 50 luxury homes in its Wadi Safar community. 

Each house is priced at a minimum of $25 million, catering to a select clientele of ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Wadi Safar, situated west of Diriyah, is about more than just luxury homes.

The community will also feature a championship golf course, royal diriyah equestrian, and polo club, adding to the allure of this high-end residential project.

Six Senses Wadi Safar Resort

Six Senses Resort in Wadi Safar forms part of a larger 60-square-kilometer gated community. Six Senses Wadi Safar is set to captivate guests with its breathtaking panoramic views of the dramatic valley and its unique hilltop location. 

Set across 49 acres in the Gated Wadi Safar Community, known as the ‘Bel Air’ of Saudi Arabia, the hotel promises to offer exquisite guest experiences combining the region’s rich culture with modern luxury. The resort is set to open in 2026.

The resort will feature 80 guest rooms spread across five clusters on top of a hill, offering guests an exclusive view of the dramatic valley below. 

The luxury resort will include recreation and leisure facilities alongside the royal residences, all nestled amidst an expansive and awe-inspiring natural backdrop. The blueprint contains provisions for hosting prominent global sports, arts, culture, retail, and fashion events.

This project will host three luxury resorts: Six Senses, Aman, and Oberoi. Apart from these, the area will also house the newly completed Eastern Gate, the Wadi Safar Experience Center, and the upcoming Royal Diriyah Golf Club, designed by Greg Norman.

The Oberoi is set to offer 60 rooms alongside ten branded residences. The brand’s sustained commitment to excellent hospitality in a peaceful ambiance, coupled with the intentional focus on sustainability and wellness from Six Senses, is a promise of Oberoi.

The globally respected Oberoi brand will leave its enchanting setting on this captivating landscape, offering visitors its esteemed hospitality and luxurious experiences.

Transformation of Diriyah

Diriyah is undergoing a transformative phase, evolving into a cultural city on the fringes of Riyadh. Several developments are being constructed, including several luxury hotels and resorts. 

The town is emerging as the foremost historic cultural destination in Saudi Arabia, focusing on preserving and promoting its cultural and historical identity.

 Expanding the Tourism Horizon

The development of the Ritz-Carlton is a part of Saudi Arabia’s strategic move to diversify its economy away from oil. As part of this initiative, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has identified Diriyah as its fifth giga-project. 

Other significant projects include NEOM, the Red Sea Development Project, Qiddiya, and Roshn.

Marriott Expansion In Saudi Arabia

Marriott International is expanding in Saudi Arabia with 40 planned hotels with more than 11,000 rooms and entry into new luxury destinations such as NEOM and The Red Sea. 

The expansion includes luxury brands, including W Trojena and JW Marriott in NEOM, Autograph Collection, The Ritz-Carlton Reserve, and several new hotels in the Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah.

The Autograph Collection, set to debut in Sindalah by 2024, will house 66 rooms and suites, including one- and two-bedroom villas. Guests can look forward to an array of dining options, a kids club, and a rejuvenating spa experience.

Sindalah stands as the inaugural member of a cluster of islands slated for development in NEOM, poised to emerge as one of the most captivating havens in the Red Sea. 

Marriott will also introduce some of its luxury brands to the region, including The Ritz-Carlton Reserve and St. Regis.

Ritz-Carlton Al Khobar

The Ritz-Carlton Al Khobar, announced at the prestigious Cityscape event in Riyadh, is a significant addition to the Saudi Arabian luxury hospitality sector. The resort, overlooking the mesmerizing Arabian Gulf, marks the Ritz-Carlton’s debut in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia.

The resort sprawls over 99,917 square meters, designed to provide an immersive luxury experience. With 130 hotel rooms and suites, including villas and 48 chalets, the resort is primed to cater to discerning travelers seeking a blend of comfort, luxury, and local culture.

The Autograph Collection Hotel, AlUla

Marriott International, a leading global hospitality company, is partnering with the AlUla Development Company, a wholly owned Public Investment Fund subsidiary (PIF), to expand its renowned Autograph Collection brand into Saudi Arabia.

The hotel is slated to house an impressive 250 rooms and suites. Guests can look forward to an extensive array of recreational and entertainment services. The hotel plans include four dining venues, a full-service spa, a swimming pool, a modern fitness center, a business center, meeting facilities, and retail space.

The Autograph Collection Hotel’s amenities are designed to provide guests with a unique blend of luxury and comfort, complemented by the rich heritage and natural beauty of AlUla.

Marriott’s Holy Cities Expansion

Marriott International plans to increase its room capacity by over 7,000 in the Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah. 

Anticipating significant growth, the company is set to introduce two Fairfield Inn hotels in Makkah, contributing nearly 4,000 keys, establish a 1,000-room Aloft in Makkah, marking the brand’s largest global property, and launch two Courtyard by Marriott hotels, providing over 500 rooms in both cities.

In Madinah, the company has recently partnered with the PIF-funded Rua Al-Madinah for eight projects within the Rua Al-Madinah initiative, including a new Sheraton property featuring more than 600 rooms.

Marriott NEOM Trojena Hotels

The inaugural Marriott’s W Hotel and JW Marriott Hotel in Trojena are poised to inaugurate their presence in Trojena’s Lake Village, representing its premier establishment in Saudi Arabia.

Located in the diverse Lake Village of Trojena, the Marriott W Hotel will house 236 guest rooms and 47 suites, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and freshwater lake. The hotel will feature the brand’s signature spaces and offer four unique dining destinations

The W Hotel will be in the Lake Village, a residential, hospitality, and commercial hub directly at the water’s edge. The Lake Village will be home to a 2.8-kilometer-long architectural lake, an enchanted forest, and waterfront adventure activities, ensuring diverse experiences for residents and visitors alike.

JW Marriott Trojena

Situated in The Bow, the JW Marriott Hotel in Trojena will be a futuristic water world blending nature with technology. The hotel will feature 500 luxury rooms and suites and a variety of entertainment and recreational offerings.
