Saudia Airlines has launched its first fully internet enabled flight with free high speed WiFi of up to 300 Mbps for all passengers.  

Saudi Ministers streamed a live Saudi Pro League match, made video calls, and gave live interviews during the first test flight at 35,000 feet.

Nearly 20 aircraft are already equipped with the new service with plans to expand to the entire Saudia fleet to support Saudi Vision 2030 digital goals.

Launching First Internet Enabled Flight

Saudia Airlines embarked on this innovative journey with the inaugural flight, which took place on November 1, 2025. This flight is part of a pilot program designed to test the new onboard WiFi system and gather valuable feedback from passengers. 

The airline’s goal is to ensure that the service meets the needs of its diverse clientele before rolling it out across its entire fleet.

Fast Connectivity at 35,000 Feet

One of the most remarkable aspects of this launch is the ability for passengers to stay connected even at cruising altitudes of 35,000 feet. 

This capability was showcased during the inaugural test flight, where Saudi ministers were able to stream a live Saudi Pro League match, conduct video calls, and give live interviews—all powered by the aircraft’s high-speed internet connection.

Real Time Demonstrations

The flight, designated SV1044, featured a live demonstration attended by key figures, including Saleh Al-Jasser, the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services. 

The ability to engage in real-time activities while airborne highlights the potential of this new service to transform the way passengers interact with the digital world during their travels.

Pilot Phase and Initial Feedback

During this pilot phase, passengers have the opportunity to experience internet speeds of up to 300 Mbps. This high-speed connectivity allows travelers to browse the web, stream videos, and even participate in virtual meetings without interruption.

The airline is also planning future upgrades that could potentially increase speeds to 800 Mbps, further enhancing the in-flight experience.

Saudia and Aseer Authority Agreement

Saudi Arabia’s flagship airline, Saudia has signed an agreement with the Aseer Development Authority to promote tourism in the Aseer Region. 

The partnership is due to fund seasonal campaigns during spring, summer, and winter to increase visitor numbers and bookings.

 eVTOL Air Taxis’ Purchase

Saudia Airlines has placed its largest order yet to purchase up to 100 electric take off and landing jets worth $700 million from German electric air taxi firm Lilium.

The air taxis are expected to be delivered by 2029 to transport pilgrims between Makkah and Jeddah and guests to key sporting and tourist destinations across Saudia Arabia.

Saudia and Flyadeal New Flights to Abha

Saudia and Flyadeal have revealed plans to introduce 8 additional daily flights to Abha from Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam. 

Saudia will boost its daily flights to Abha from 14 to 19, while Flyadeal will raise its daily flights from 14 to 17. 

This growth supports the Saudi Tourism Authority’s efforts to highlight Abha as a prime destination during the Aseer Season” and the “Saudi Summer.”

Saudia Airlines Largest Aircraft Deal

Saudi Arabia’s national airline, Saudia, has made a groundbreaking the largest aircraft deal of 105 Airbus planes in the history of Saudi Arabian aviation. 

The acquisition was revealed at the Future Aviation Forum held in Riyadh, comprising of Airbus A320 Neo and A321 Neo aircraft.

This will enable Saudia to provide comprehensive Hajj packages, including flights, accommodation, and transportation to the Holy Sites within Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Airlines plans to revolutionize Hajj travel by introducing Flying Taxis to transport pilgrims between Jeddah‘s King Abdulaziz International Airport and Makkah hotels during the Hajj and Umrah seasons. 

Saudia has committed to purchasing 100 Lilium aircraft, which are electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft manufactured in Germany. 

These jets offer a sustainable solution with low carbon emissions and can travel up to 250 km while carrying four to six passengers. The new service aims to cater to affluent guests who desire the most luxurious travel experiences.
