The journey of the Jeddah Tower began with grand ambitions. Initially known as the Kingdom Tower, this megastructure was envisioned as a centerpiece of the Jeddah Economic City, a massive urban development project aimed at diversifying Saudi Arabia’s economy.

Construction on the Jeddah Tower officially began in 2013. The early years saw steady progress, with the tower’s foundation and lower floors taking shape. By 2018, 63 of the planned 157 floors had been completed, and the project appeared to be well on its way to reaching its ambitious goals.

In early 2018, construction on the Jeddah Tower came to an unexpected halt. The recent announcement by Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal that construction has officially resumed marks a new chapter in the story of the Jeddah Tower.

In early 2025, the project saw a resurgence as construction teams mobilized to resume work. The Saudi Binladin Group, in collaboration with Dar Al-Handasah and Turner Construction, has played a crucial role in advancing the project.

With the installation of high-pressure concrete pumps and advanced construction techniques, the tower is now rising at an impressive rate of one floor every three to four days.

Current Progress

As of late 2025, the Jeddah Tower has reached nearly 80 floors, showcasing the rapid advancement of this architectural marvel. The concrete core is over 50% complete, with plans for a total of 157 floors. This remarkable progress is a testament to the engineering prowess and determination of the teams involved.

Architectural Features of Jeddah Tower

Foundation Engineering

One of the most critical aspects of the Jeddah Tower’s construction is its foundation. The structure is supported by a robust foundation system that includes a 5-meter-thick concrete pad covering an area of 7,500 square meters.

This pad is anchored by 270 deep bored piles that extend up to 110 meters into the bedrock, providing the necessary stability to support the towering structure.

When comparing the Jeddah Tower to the Burj Khalifa, several key differences emerge. The Burj Khalifa, which stands at 828 meters, has a foundation that consists of a 3.7-meter-thick concrete mat supported by 192 bored piles.

The Jeddah Tower’s foundation is significantly more robust, reflecting advancements in engineering and construction techniques.
