The new Jeddah Central destination, which aims to make Jeddah a global tourist destination has got one step closer to reality with the Jeddah Central Development Company awarding $3.2 billion in contracts for Phase One of the development.

The iconic destination spread over 5.7 million square kilometers is due to feature a world-class stadium, an oceanarium, beach resorts, 2,700 hotel rooms, malls, restaurants, and 17,000 housing units.

With Jeddah’s strategic location on the Red Sea and its proximity to the pilgrimage cities of Makkah and Madinah, the PIF-owned developer hopes the $20 Billion Jeddah Central project will become an all-year-round tourist destination.

Jeddah Central Development Company (JCDC), supported by the Public Investment Fund, is taking significant strides towards transforming the landscape of Jeddah. The company has signed contracts worth $3.2 billion for Phase One of its ambitious Jeddah Central destination project.

Phase One, which accounts for 45 % of the project set to be completed by the end of 2027, of this exciting endeavor will create three major architectural landmarks. These include:

  • A state-of-the-art stadium
  • A cultural hub in the form of an opera house
  • A unique oceanarium

The contract also covers the construction of infrastructure and utility facilities. These contracts mark the beginning of the construction work and infrastructure for the first phase. 

The plan aims to transform downtown Jeddah into a global tourist destination with a $19.9 Billion budget, aligning with Vision 2030’s goals as the next 36% of this project is due for completion in 2030.

A consortium of China Railway Construction Corp. LTD Saudi Branch and Sama Construction for Contracting has been awarded the construction contract for Jeddah Central Destination’s stadium. 

The stadium is designed in unique contemporary architecture with international specifications and will accommodate 45,000 fans. Notably, it is FIFA-compliant and is expected to host major local and international games.

The Opera House

Modern Building Leaders Company has been awarded the contract to construct the opera house. This significant cultural hub will consist of three major halls with international specifications. It is designed to serve as a platform for creativity and inspiration, positioning Jeddah as a cultural hub.

The Oceanarium

The contract for the construction of the oceanarium has also been awarded to Modern Building Leaders Company. The oceanarium will be a window to the wonders of the Red Sea, offering an unparalleled experience to visitors while advocating for marine biodiversity protection.

JCDC’s project executive director, Engineer Mardi Al-Mansour, reported that it took more than seven million safe working hours to prepare and equip the construction sites and marine infrastructure implementation work. All the work was conducted following international standards of quality and safety.
